I don't suppose anyone will disagree with an optional payment for the very reason that it's optional. I suspect there is a long way to go before anything further happens on this front though.afootinthehillshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06670636358354420373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089596276538867573.post-71503573769937213382010-08-05T09:14:23.473+01:002010-08-05T09:14:23.473+01:00Some really interesting points of view above, so I...Some really interesting points of view above, so I'll sling in my tuppence worth - for what it's worth.

Parking charges can be a bit on the steep side in certain areas which is a bit frustrating, however if it goes to repair/prevent the damage that the thousands of people (myself included) create by meandering out in the hills I can only thank those that take the time to CF Richhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03982001728381415835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089596276538867573.post-84561879347924261922010-08-03T10:50:46.986+01:002010-08-03T10:50:46.986+01:00Alan - just picked up your second comment. Many will cry out that Ben Nevis is 'a special case'. When it was proposed to site marker poles to aid navigation off the summit in bad weather (6ft cairns are there now) many argued that it would be the start of waymarking in the afootinthehillshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06670636358354420373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089596276538867573.post-7325311939775103582010-08-03T10:22:27.603+01:002010-08-03T10:22:27.603+01:00Thanks everyone for commenting.
Alan - £160,000 ...Thanks everyone for commenting.

Alan - £160,000 sounds (and is!) a lot of money but I have no idea of the costs involved in path maintenance on the scale required on Ben Nevis. The Nevis Parnership, formed in 2003 has received something like £3m but not just for footpath repair. As far as I'm aware it plans to close in 2011 because of funding cuts.

Mike - sounds like a afootinthehillshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06670636358354420373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089596276538867573.post-44062189598930573012010-08-03T09:37:53.174+01:002010-08-03T09:37:53.174+01:00When you consider just how expensive parking has b...When you consider just how expensive parking has become in the Lake District.
