A quick getaway

A good weather forecast, a quick stocking of the motorcaravan and we were off back to Braemar.

The Glen Shee ski park was a very windy place today but down in the village it was a perfect autumn day, the surrounding hills looking as fine as I can remember. Tomorrow we'll be on them.

When we were here in September I reported my 'leaky' new Montane Air Jacket. It was returned to Swaledale Outdoors who in turn sent it back to Montane for testing. Their lab tests showed no fault, so no refund. In fairness, Swaledale have offered to 'work with me ' to resolve the issue i.e. go out in the wet and photograph the water ingress. Go out in the Cairngorms in the rain with a jacket I know doesn't work? Er, no thanks.

For the moment I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Considering what the Air costs and its specification and the blurb given out by marketing there is no way you should have a leaking jacket. Do they think anyone in the right mind would send back a perfectly good jacket, of course not.
I returned my Montane Minimus mountain jacket back to UOG and got a refund with no quibble. They also added my negative review to their web site.
I am giving Montane a very wide berth now.
I would have thought you would have been entitled to a refund.
Enjoy your time in Braemar.

Hi Alan. Yes, £8.55 including insurance to return the jacket. Why would I? My local outdoor shop has put the new Paramo Velez Jacket aside for me to pick up on our way home. I do like Paramo though everything is a compromise really.

I'll try to enjoy Braemar but it's hard you know...

Hopefully I don't start off the love hate paramo debate here. I have the Velez and I cannot stop one sleeve leaking but it's a great jacket for winter snow.

That's a shame. I've never had a problem with Paramo - 4 jackets and Cascada trousers but I'm not evangelical about it. Is it the smock you have or the new jacket with the combination of face fabric - light and standard fabric.

If I do have a problem with the Velez at least I know I won't also have a problem returning it.

It's the Smock Gibson.
