Sparrowhawk

By the time I'd got the camera I could only get this rather poor photograph of  'our' sparrowhawk sitting on the bird bath. A few minutes earlier and I could have got one of her staring straight at me.

Not bad for a rush job. They don't usually sit too long anywhere.

Hi Alan

After I took this, I moved to get another shot from a window which didn't have the sun streaming through it but she flew off.

You did well to get any kind of picture of a sparrowhawk; they usually detect even the smallest movement and move off.

Have you ever tried photographing long-tailed tits? I swear they know what they're doing and just take the mickey.

If I'd picked up the camera as soon as Lyyne shouted that the sparrowhawk was on the bird bath, I'd have got a much better shot. No, never tried photographing long-tailed tits. Our regular blackbirds are easy though!

They're never still, the long-tailers; I've taken loads of shots of them on our feeders and never really got even a satisfactory one.

Part of the problem is me not being a very good photographer of course; that and never being quite ready with the camera to hand and the batteries charged.

The batteries are always charged but I can identify with the other shortcomings.

Hi Carl

Thanks, but I could kick myself for not being quicker off the mark. I've photographed her twice before with similar results. One of those days........
